What Is Urinary Incontinence?

Urinary incontinence is the loss of urine. There are a few types of incontinence:

  • Stress Incontinence – loss of urine upon sneezing, coughing, laughing or exercise.
  • Urge incontinence – loss of urine with a feeling of urgency; some women with overactive bladder symptoms leak before they can make it to the restroom.
  • Mixed incontinence – some patients may have a mixture of stress and urge incontinence.

How is urinary incontinence treated?

  • Treatment options for stress incontinence include kegel exercises, pelvic floor muscle rehabilitation, and outpatient minimally invasive procedures and surgery.
  • Treatment options for urge incontinence include medication, kegel exercises, pelvic floor muscle rehabilitation, biofeedback and electrical stimulation, outpatient minimally invasive procedures and surgery.
